How to play New Super Mario Bros Wii on PC
May 24th, 2010
Who says you need a Wii to play Nintendo’s newest entry of 2D platform Mario games? Well, to be honest, Nintendo says but noone gives a damn! If you meet the requirements you can enjoy Mario and Luigi to their latest adventure just by owning a PC.
You will certainly need a powerful machine to play the game flawlesly and not only that but the graphics will be much better than the… “real” thing. Even if your machine just meets the requirements you can still enjoy the game. You’ll obviously have to make sacrifices though for example in resolution.
Except for the machine you will also need two more things. The first is an emulator called Dolphin which is free and you can download at the official website (http://www.dolphin-emu.com). The second is the ISO of New Super Mario Bros Wii which can be found all over the Internet. But i’m sure you know this is illegal unless you own an actual copy of the game. So you’ve been warned!
Once you’ve got everything you need to setup the emulator. Run it and go to the options (Options → Configure). From there check the following options:
Enable Dual Core
Enable Idle Skipping
DSPLLE On Thread
JIT Recompiler
On Wii tab uncheck Enable Prograssive Scan if it is selected
On Plugins tab and more specific to the Graphics options choose whichever plug-in suits you better. For me Direct3D worked much better than OpenGL. Make sure that you check the following options:
Enable CPU → EFB access
Enable EFB Copy to Texture
On the Wiimote plug-in make sure that both Wiimote and Nunchuck are emulated and set the keys the way you want.
From this point on it’s up to you, it’s trial and error. Experiment with the settings that affect the quality of the graphics to see what is better for you system.
